Made unusual findings: – I wish we had not ruined Christmas for anyone now
On Wednesday, the Customs Service shared on Twitter that a large amount of the coveted spicy saffron has been seized.
A Danish man came driving off the ferry from Copenhagen when he was stopped by the Customs.
– This was part of a completely ordinary routine check, says Vidar Nårstad in the Customs.
He was involved in making the special bracket.
After a short conversation about whether he had anything with him in his luggage, the customs authorities first find a small amount of marijuana.
This led the customs officers to make a further search of the man’s car. In the trunk they found the unusual amount of saffron.
The customs service informs on Twitter that the spice is estimated to be worth 100.00 to 200.00 kroner.
#Oslo A Danish man who arrived by ferry from Copenhagen brought with him small amounts of marijuana and 1.5 kg of saffron. The value of the spice is estimated at 100,000-200,000 NOK. This is a breach of the value limit for what one can bring to Norway duty free. The man is reported for both conditions. pic.twitter.com/zhmA2HGtIz

Was surprised
Nårstad states that there is no other limit to how much spice a person can bring into the country, but if you exceed the value limit, you must pay customs and taxes.
– We find it very nice in these types of controls, he says
There were still many who were surprised by the find,
– It is not often we find such large quantities.
At such routine checks, they usually find a number of quota-regulated goods, or drugs, Njårstad states.
The saffron has been sent on to the police, who have seized the spice, which also decides whether he will get it back.
Gives huge amounts of lynx cats
Njårstad does not know what the man had intended to use the saffron for.
– I do not want to ruin Christmas for anyone, he says.
Ina Vistung, on-duty press officer in the Customs Service, says that they have calculated how many lice cats such an amount of saffron can give.
– This amount gives about 30,000 lice cats. Or enough to bake louse cats for the whole of Hamar.
