Vaccination is the best protection against infection
Maja Bratuša said that the epidemiological situation has been deteriorating rapidly in recent days. The data show that the Obalno-kraška region, the Primorsko-Notranjska region and the Zasavje region currently have the worst results. The number of active cases in Slovenia exceeded 28,000. A total of 2,634 PCR tests and 6,930 rapid antigen tests were performed on Monday (yesterday). A total of 1,136 new infections were confirmed by PCR yesterday, and the proportion of positive PCR tests was 43.1%.
Today, as many as 634 people are being treated in hospitals due to COVID-19, of which 158 in intensive care units, which means that we are already very close to the numbers that are no longer sustainable for the Slovenian health care system. By 22 October, the situation in the intensive care units was relatively stable, but has deteriorated sharply in the last ten days. On 22 October, 120 intensive care beds were occupied for patients with COVID-19, and today another 38 beds are occupied, bringing the total number of intensive care beds occupied by patients with COVID-19 to 158 .
The director of the National Institute of Public Health, Milan Krek, said that the number of infections per 100,000 population in Slovenia had risen sharply in the last 14 days. Most new COVID-19 infections occurred in the family and common household, in the workplace, in educational institutions, and in private meetings.
The exponential growth of infections shows that we will have twice as many infected in 11 days. The average proportion of hospital admissions among COVID-19 positive cases was 4.8%, and the average proportion of hospitalized persons transferred to intensive care units was 27.5%. According to the situation in the last 59 days, the total number of patients is 67,875 or 20%, and the average incidence is 1131. , 8%. The simulation of the epidemic shows that Slovenia will reach its peak in COVID-19 in mid-November 2021, and then the curve is expected to turn downwards, but only if there is no new outbreak of infections in the meantime. .
Director Krek called on all citizens to strictly follow the rule of cured / vaccinated / tested, as Slovenia has a sufficiently safe vaccine and vaccination is currently the best protection against infections and serious diseases.
