several parks and gardens closed this week due to treatment against a caterpillar
Sus to the pine processionary caterpillar. This week, a biological treatment against this invasive insect will be applied by municipal services in several parks and gardens in Toulouse. The objective: to fight against its proliferation. The interventions are scheduled for November 2, 3 and 4, 2021, “subject to favorable weather conditions”, indicates the Toulouse town hall. As a precautionary measure, treated green spaces are prohibited to the public.
Four gardens were thus closed to the public on Tuesday: Embarthe, Aymé Kung, Nougaro and Lapujade. They must reopen tomorrow. But four other green spaces will be exceptionally closed that day. This is the case for the Parc de l’Observatoire, the Jardin de la Coquille, the Parc Félix Lavit and the Jardin des Hauts de Bonnefoy. Finally, the Poudrerie garden will not be accessible on Thursday. All these green spaces normally open the day after treatment.
Other parks closed next week
Parks and gardens had already been banned from the public three weeks ago. They had also been treated against the processionary caterpillar. Some of them will be closed again next Monday. On November 8, the Pays d’Oc garden, the Boulingrin square, the Royal garden, the Jardin des Plantes, the museum garden, the Sacré Coeur park and the Rangueil garden will be treated against the pine processionary caterpillar.
As a reminder, this insect is a formidable pest. Its hair is very stinging and dangerous for humans and animals. They can cause serious health problems (rashes, itching, eye or breathing problems). Apart from the treatment of the processionary caterpillar, the town hall has found several other “natural and targeted” methods to protect users of green spaces in the pink city. Among other things, she carries out the removal of cocoons.
