Anna Speranskaya, head of the genomics and post-genomic technologies group of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, assessed the spread of the new variant of the coronavirus AY.4.2. According to her, this form of the “delta” strain has spread to other European countries, but it is not observed in Russia, report “News”.
According to Speranskaya, the number of sequences of this subline uploaded to the available databases of SARS-CoV-2 genomes has not changed since the new variant first appeared. Rospotrebnadzor saw the dynamics of the spread of the COVID-19 AY.4.2 variant.
“This strain is not spreading yet. Until now, only a few cases are known, ”the representative of Rospotrebnadzor emphasized.
The specialist added that the composition of the pathogen variants common in Russia has not changed since last month. If we compare the situation with September, we can say that it has not fundamentally changed.
Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, spoke about the new version of the “delta” AY.4.2. She noted that Popova emphasized that AY.4.2 only marked the “delta demonstration”. At the moment, the World Health Organization (WHO) believes that this variant of the coronavirus does not require a wary attitude towards itself.
As of October 29, Russia recorded five cases of the “delta” strain of coronavirus AY.4.2. Three were registered in Moscow and the Moscow region, two more – in patients in Kazan and the village of Bogatye Saby (Republic of Tatarstan).
