Ligue1 (J12): Brest offers a prestigious success against Monaco
19th in the league1 standings with 6 points and without the slightest victory, Brest received Monaco 10th with 4 units from the podium: on their own facilities, the Brestois clinched a precious 2-0 victory against the Monegasques.
Worrying for many weeks the Breton formation (Brest) still remained on two draws against Reims (1-1) and Lille (1-1) after having chained three consecutive defeats. For its part, Monaco had a very difficult start to the season but seems to have raised the bar since mid-September. Stopped in their tracks by the defeat in Lyon on the 10th day (2-0), the Monegasques were able to bounce back by beating Montpellier last Sunday (3-1). Johan Hamel (41), referee of the match, kicks off, and the Bretons have rather unapologetically. In the 18th minute on a free kick located at the right corner post, Faivre rolled up with his left foot then Douaron extended with his head. Covered by the Monegasque defense, Mounié appeared at the far post to conclude with his right foot under the crossbar. 1-0 in favor of Brest who will retain their advantage until the break.
Back from the locker room, Monaco tries to raise its level of play, but lacks consistency against well-grouped Brestois. The first Monegasque shot on target comes in the 56th minute when Jean Lucas offers a good cross at the far post for the smashed header of Gelson Martins, without worries for Marco Bizot. The minutes pass and the Bretons gain confidence, while the Monegasques sink into doubt. The goal of the KO will intervene in the 79th minute. On a decisive breakthrough in the axis, Faivre shifts to the right for Cardona who escapes Maripan before centering at ground level; his center finds Honorat who concludes with the left foot in the opposite direction. 2-0, the Monegasques will never recover in this match.
In mastery, the Brestois won their first success of the season thanks to Mounié and Honorat. Uninspired, the Monegasques failed to respond to the challenge ‘imposed by the opponent. ASM notes the opportunity to get closer to the top three.
