End of free ephemeral terraces in Marseille
Wooden terraces had appeared in front of more than 700 storefronts of restaurants and bars in Marseille during the health crisis. Those ephemeral terraces were allocated free of charge. Now it’s over, we’ll have to pay the location of the location. The price can range from 1,800 to 3,000 euros per year.
Traders ready to pay
Bruno Arnoux is one of the 72 professionals who have submitted a file to the town hall of Marseille for keep a final terrace in front of his pizzeria The Mamma. It has a space of 10 square meters, which gives it 10 more seats. “Most of the time people prefer to eat outside in the sun rather than being warm inside” explains Bruno Arnoux. He who has been running his business for 23 years is ready to pay for the location because “It makes it possible to make a call to customers. People see that it’s a restaurant and that it’s open so they come more easily.”
Terraces on parking spaces
The ephemeral terraces in Marseille occupy old parking spaces. So for Emma Djian, from the restaurant the Ciergerie in Marseille, there is no photo: “a terrace full of people kept the eye more than cars parked in front of the storefront.” This restaurant, which opened at the beginning of the summer, was able to find its customers thanks to its ephemeral terrace which occupies two parking spaces.
