“Zombie Walk” on Halloween in Essen
Essen / Berlin. After a year of Corona pause, several hundred people in disguise went to Essen again this year on Halloween for the “zombie walk” through the city. The city announced that the event, which was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, was planned as a Halloween parade for everyone this year. Around 500 participants marched through the city center for about half an hour, as a police spokesman said. The parade after dark was mainly attended by parents and their children and was peaceful.
In Berlin, however, the police increased their presence on Halloween night after rioting and assaults in the past. The authority did not have any specific information about activities on Halloween night, according to police spokesman Thilo Cablitz. Experience has shown, however, that the police are increasingly called to deploy in connection with Halloween celebrations. “Damage to property, bodily harm and disturbances of the peace at parties are often in the foreground,” said the spokesman.
“Squid Game” outfits in NRW?
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the state chairman of the German police union suspects that the red overalls from the confirmed Netflix series “Squid Game” would also be on the streets in the evening. “I already see potential for conflict,” said Erich Rettinghaus. “We warn that you have to differentiate between game and reality if you want to re-enact these games”.
In the Netflix series, participants in a deadly game wear dark green tracksuits with numbers on them, and there are guards in red overalls with black masks. The participants fight for survival in several rounds.
