Innsbruck and Vienna Caps in the ICE continue to rise
The Innsbrucker Haie and the Vienna Capitals have participated in their successful series in the ICE ice hockey league. The Tyroleans celebrated their sixth win in a row with a 5: 2 against Black Wings Linz and are still in third place in the table. The Caps defeated the Graz99ers 4: 2 and after their sixth win in the last seven games are in the top 6 for the first time this season. RB Salzburg (5: 2 against VSV) and Südtirol (1: 0 against KAC) also celebrated home wins .
In the new edition of the final last season, a goal decided the runner-up from Bolzano. Mike Halmo decided the game with his power play goal in the first third (20th) because the KAC couldn’t take advantage of many good chances afterwards. The defending champion from Carinthia Feld fell back to seventh with their third defeat this week.
The Innsbrucker Haie led against the Black Wings 3-0 after 27 minutes, but a double strike by Alexander Lahoda (29th) and Brian Lebler (32nd) brought the bottom of the table back into the game. Thanks to Tim McGauley in the power play (39th), Innsbruck pulled away decisively before the second break. With six wins in a row, Mitch O’Keefe’s team holds their longest winning streak since the 2017/18 season.
Thanks to Florian Baltram and Peter Schneider, who each scored twice, Salzburg scored three points for the first time in nine games and October 8. The Bulls lost a 2-0 lead against the VSV, but Baltram (45th, 59th) and Schneider (51st) secured the home win in the final third. At the VSV, Alexander Rauchwald made his comeback. The striker from his own offspring played for Salzburg for seven years and has now returned to his home club after a short stint in Sweden.
The Vienna Caps found their way after a botched start to the season. The Viennese were only able to fix their fifth home win in a row against Die Grazer in the finish. Niki Hartl made the decision in the 58th minute in the power play with the goal to make it 3-2. The Styrians are stuck in third from last place after only one win from their past nine games.
