Brno firefighters can control traffic lights, they simply switch to green when they hit
Brno is one of the first cities in which has been successfully testing the republic’s control system of intersections with rescue system vehicles for several years. Firefighters can use the so-called green waves on the way to the intervention, when they have to clear the passage of green light at traffic lights. A similar system is used by public transport vehicles.
If you ever feel that firefighters are flashing green at the traffic lights, it’s no coincidence. Brno is one of the pioneers of green wool for vehicle vehicles. The principle is simple.
“When he arrives at the crossroads, the unit will command the traffic lights to turn green,” said Jaroslav Mikoška, a spokesman for the South Moravian fire brigade.
Firefighters could turn red with flashing beacons, but changing the color of traffic lights reduces the risk that one of the drivers will make a mistake and drive the drove into the path.
The longest tram tunnel is almost finished. Brno will start operation next year
The communication with the traffic lights is in charge of the transmitter on the roof of the emergency vehicle. In Brno, firefighters can control 25 intersections on the city ring road.
The intervention commander’s vehicle and larger trucks have a miracle box. “It has a total of 30 of our vehicles,” added Mikoška.
Firefighters cannot praise technological gadgets. Thanks to the fact that the ride is smoother, it also saves a few minutes of time. The system wants to expand. “Firefighters are interested in another 20 intersections,” said Roman Nekula, administrative director of Brno Roads.
For years, Brno suffers from an unpleasant odor. The regional authority has already started to solve it
Drivers in Brno have already noticed that public transport vehicles have the same superpowers as fire trucks. “All our cars that communicate with 130 intersections are involved,” said Hana Tomaštíková, a spokeswoman for the Brno transport company.
The computer evaluates the delay of the tram and in which direction it continues. If possible, it shortens the wait at traffic lights. Brno is a pioneer of this technology and has already inspired 43 other cities in the Czech Republic and abroad. “In Graz or Hamburg they are interested in our experience,” added Tomaštíková.
In the future, the system should communicate with other drivers who will receive information about the passage of an ambulance or obstacles on the road.
