Wetzikon: child seriously injured in traffic accident
At around 7 p.m., a 67-year-old van driver drove on Bahnhofstrasse in Wetzikon in the direction of Kempten. At the height of the town hall, a 41-year-old woman with her child in a buggy intended to cross the street from the left. At the zebra crossing, the van collided with the buggy and the 7-year-old girl. This was seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital in a rescue helicopter after first aid from the rescue service and the emergency doctor. The mother was not injured and flew with her kind.
The cause of the accident is currently unclear and is being investigated together with the responsible public prosecutor. The Zurich Cantonal Police’s Accident Evidence Preservation Documentation service secured traces at the scene of the accident. The Bahnhofstrasse had to be completely closed for more than two hours due to the accident between the Bachtel- and Pappelnstrasse. The fire brigade traffic group sets up a diversion.
In addition to the Zurich canton police, the Wetzikon city police, the See / Oberland public prosecutor’s office, the Uster hospital rescue service, an emergency doctor from Regio 144, Rega and the traffic group of the Wetzikon-Seegräben fire department are on duty.
