Toulouse: the midwives of the Rive-Gauche clinic on a surprise strike
Midwives who have been making rotating movements since the beginning of October stopped work this morning. They demand recognition of their profession and better working conditions
The midwives of the Rive-Gauche clinic are put on a surprise strike this Saturday morning at 7:35 am. They believe that their demands have not been heard at the national level, while discussions within the establishment have remained a dead letter.
They are asking for an immediate increase in their workforce in order to support their patients in safety and a modification of their status within the collective agreement.
This movement following the numerous strike movements began in many private maternity hospitals in France.
For Marion Pichon, midwife at the Rive Gauche clinic, the job is no longer a dream: “After five years of higher education, who today wants to come to work day and night, on weekends with the fatigue that accumulates for 1,700 euros per month? ”she asks.
“The situation of salaried midwives in the private sector has once again been despised,” she continues. Our working conditions deteriorate in the most total indifference. Our workforce does not allow safe support for our patients and their newborns. And for good reason, the decrees which govern our organization date from October 1998. Our Council of the Order has long alerted the public authorities to the shortage of midwives and the exhaustion of the professionals in place, but no suitable response has been made. has been fixed ”.
