Panama, the restoration of the works of art of the presidential palace at the University of Siena
The works of art in the palace of the Presidency of the Republic of Panama will be studied and restored by the University of Siena. After the agreements signed in recent years between the Sienese University and the State University of Panama and the agreement with the Latin American Parliament, which also involves the Municipality of Siena, an executive program was signed on 25 October at the presidential headquarters in restoration sector, as part of the Cultural and Scientific Framework Agreement between the Italian Republic and that of Panama. The rector of the University of Siena and the mayor of Siena participated in the remote meeting and were represented at the Palacio del las Garzas by the lawyer Alberto Botarelli, present with the Italian ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti, the “Primera Dama de la República Yazmin Colón de Cortizo, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture of Panama and the Deputy Minister of the Presidency. The project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in addition to recognizing Italian excellence in the recovery of works of art, will offer an important opportunity for the training in Panama of a first group of students, who will be future restorers. and experts in the management of the country’s cultural heritage; at the same time, the documentation of all the phases of the intervention will also constitute a training tool for the Italian students of the School of Specialization in Historic-Artistic Heritage of the University of Siena. After an initial study already carried out by Professor Alessandro Bagnoli, the Panamanian Ministry of Culture will make available the laboratory where the interventions in particular of the pictorial works will be carried out by the Italian restorers indicated by the Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage of the Sienese University. . “We are particularly proud to participate in this restoration project – said the rector Francesco Frati -, both because it enhances the qualified skills within the Sienese University, and because it strengthens the scientific-cultural link of the University of Siena with the State of Panama, a link that already includes important collaboration agreements with Panamanian universities and Central American institutions.
