Northern lights in Belgium? There is a small chance this Saturday night
Do you live in Limburg? So take a look outside tonight! Our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws note that it may be possible to see the Northern Lights this Saturday evening in the Netherlands and Limburg, Belgium.
Solar activity is intense right now and a plasma cloud is heading towards Earth. This allows the formation of northern lights. According to Ruben Weytjens, the meteorologist, interviewed by Het Laatste Nieuws, the show could last until 4 a.m. this Sunday.
However, this is not certain. The sky must still be dark and clear. If you are in Limburg and the sky is bright, and you see stars, go to a place with poor lighting. It is best to get away from city lights. Get ready, the Northern Lights usually only last a few minutes (15 to 30 minutes). Good luck to you !
Not the first time
If this phenomenon is very rare in Belgium, this is not the first time that the Northern Lights have been visible in Limburg. 18 years ago it was already possible to observe in this part of the country. And according to Ruben Weytjens, the lights may come back in the weeks or months to come.
