Marseille: no sanction for the CRS author of a fatal shot on Zineb Redouane
Posted
In December 2018, in full movement of yellow vests in the city center of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône). An 80-year-old woman who closed her shutters was the target of fatal gunfire from a CRS. Three years later, no sanction has been retained against the author of this fatal shot.
It was one of the tragic episodes of the yellow vests protests. In December 2018, in the middle of a demonstration, a police officer sent a tear gas canister in the face of an 80-year-old woman, who died the next day in hospital. After a laborious investigation, theIGPN, identify the CRS responsible for the shooting and denounce a breach of the obligation of judgment and inappropriate action.
While we could expect a sanction for the police, the director general of the national police, Frédéric Veau, decided to clear the CRS by not inflicting any sanction. The latter is justified by evoking fatigue, the lack of visibility, the tension of the tragic day and the need for shooting in relation to the situation. “It shows above all how much police impunity exists”, plague Yassine Bouzrou, lawyer for the victim’s family. A judicial investigation is open, but for the moment, no indictment has been made.
