Artist Pedro Tropa wins first edition of FLAD Award / Living Room Lisbon | Art
Portuguese artist Pedro Tropa is the winner of the first edition of the FLAD Drawing Award, a partnership between the Luso Americana Foundation for Development (FLAD) and Sala de Desenho Lisboa, promoting the promotion of new Portuguese artists.
The artist was chosen among the ten finalists selected from a total of 327 entries for this first edition of the award launched by FLAD, with the aim of “recognizing artistic talent in Portugal and supporting promising artists”.
The prize, with a cash value of 20 thousand euros, was given this Saturday at Sala de Estar Lisboa, a contemporary art fair dedicated to drawing, which takes place at the National Society of Fine Arts until this Sunday, and where the works of the artists are exhibited. ten finalists.
Pedro Tropa was born in Santarém, in 1973, and trained in Drawing and Photography at. Ar.Co, having finished his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, in the United States of America. Teacher since 2007 and, currently, responsible for the Photography department of the Ar.Co, for nearly two decades, his work in drawing, photography, text and sound is strongly linked to landscape and his practice as a mountaineer.
He has belonged since 2009 to the group of artists at Galeria Quadrado Azul and has collaborated since 2018 with the Osso collective, and is also a founding member of the Matéria Simples Project.
