When will the LGV line finally go to Toulouse?
When will a high-speed line go to Toulouse? Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse (LR), was the guest of Patrick Roger on October 29 in the program “C’est à la une” on Sud Radio, to be found from Monday to Friday at 7:10 am.
Many people take the train to go on vacation. And going to Toulouse by train is always a bit complicated. Or, the mayor of Bordeaux has just declared that he is not in favor of the LGV.
Jean-Luc Moudenc, Mayor of Toulouse: “we paid 300 million euros for the Bordeaux LGV”
“It’s an opposition that has been his for years, he’s had this fight for a long time, but I found it selfish, says Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse (LR). In reality, a few years ago, the LGV arrived in Bordeaux from a section between Tours and Bordeaux. We, the people of Toulouse, have paid around 300 million euros, which is still not nothing, to participate in the Bordeaux LGV service. “
“It was designed as a step, recalls the mayor of Toulouse. The commitment had been made by the public authorities that there would then have been the section between Bordeaux and Toulouse. We are working on it, collecting funding. The Prime Minister announced the decision. The mayor of Bordeaux is part of a small minority which is in a rearguard fight against the LGV. “
Jean-Luc Moudenc, Mayor of Toulouse: “The LGV is 50 times less carbon emissions than the car”
Is it good ecological to build a new line? Are we not going to destroy landscapes yet? “The LGV is fifty times less carbon emissions than when you take a car, recalls Jean-Luc Moudenc. In terms of ecology, it has no shortage of arguments. But it is a lack of solidarity on the part of my Bordeaux colleague. He is in the minority, he belongs to the party of the Greens. Fortunately, this party does not hold the Bordeaux metropolis.“ With work starting in 2024, the LGV could be on track around 2030-2032.
It must be said that Bordeaux benefited a lot from the TGV effect. “Wherever the LGV has passed, there have been positive effects, confirms the mayor of Toulouse. Today in France, the only regional metropolis that is not served by the LGV is Toulouse, which is an incredible paradox. There is a real need to strengthen the part of the train. This goes in the direction of ecology and in that of all the LGV networks of France. “
