“There is no recovery without women.” Lisbon stage of the Global Summit of Women
‘Çomen Transforming Economies ‘is the theme of the 2021 edition of the Global Summit of Women, which, this year, is requested by the Portuguese capital between the 28th and 30th of October
The event, considered as ‘Davos for women’, was created 30 years ago by Irene Natividad, an American with Filipino roots and a former consultant to several US presidents, such as Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Its objective is to “build global relationships and offer a forum for sharing in line with the advancement of the economic status of women around the world”, reads the website of the GlobeWomen Research and Education Institute, to which it is associated.
Now, with new challenges due to Covid-19, Natividad stresses, in a statement to RTP, that “there can be no economic recovery without women”.
“[As mulheres] they are half of the world’s workers, 80% of consumers, own 35% of small businesses. How can there be any kind of growth without us? ”, asks the activist, launching the premise for this edition of the meeting.
GlobeWomen’s president also highlights the impact of the pandemic on women, “who were suddenly forced to work from home, at the same time that schools were closed”, which is why, therefore, “I had twice as much work in one place “And that many” work out their jobs because they couldn’t do both things at the same time.”
Rosa Monteiro, Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, also emphasizes to RTP that “it is now known that policies to promote equality improve the lives of societies and contribute to the economic, social and civic development of all countries, and this is our path”.
