The difficult situation in the Republic of Moldova regarding the gas supply, generated by the action of the Russian side, was highlighted in detail.
The interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, had a telephone conversation on Friday with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the two addressing issues regarding the elaboration of the future NATO Strategic Concept, but also regarding the situation in the Republic of Moldova related to gas supply.
“The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange views on current security challenges in the Black Sea region, as well as on priority issues on the Allied agenda, including the prospect of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Riga at the beginning. December 2021, respectively of the negotiation of the new NATO Strategic Concept ”, informs the MFA in a communiqué sent to AGERPRES.
According to the quoted source, Aurescu and Stoltenberg addressed aspects related to the elaboration of the future NATO Strategic Concept, the head of the Romanian diplomacy presenting a series of strategic priorities that are currently outlined in the evaluation of our countries.
“Regarding the challenges in Romania’s neighborhood, Minister Bogdan Aurescu highlighted in detail the difficult situation in the Republic of Moldova on gas supply, generated by the action of the Russian side, which creates unpredictability and instability, with obvious negative social effects . and economically in this country. In this context, the head of Romanian diplomacy refers to the importance of deepening cooperation with Alliance partners and intensifying support for them, including the fight against hybrid threats, strengthening the dimension of energy security and strengthening resilience. Consequently, he stressed that NATO’s New Strategic Concept will have to address how to reach the range of hybrid threats and that more attention will have to be paid to the level of energy security and resilience building, including NATO partners, “said the MFA.
Minister Aurescu also pointed out that the energy dimension can be a priority area in which NATO-EU cooperation can be strengthened.
In this context, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the measures announced by the EU on October 28, in support of overcoming the current energy crisis towards the Republic of Moldova, Romania actively supporting and constantly promoting this objective.
Bogdan Aurescu recalled the steps he took at the most recent Foreign Affairs Council of the EU, on October 18, respectively the steps taken by President Klaus Iohannis at the European Council level, last week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also states.
“Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Minister Bogdan Aurescu for the evaluations presented and shared the approach of the Romanian side. He assured that NATO is closely monitoring the developments on the levels approached, the Alliance showing increased vigilance regarding the hybrid threats and their implications on the security dimension. The two senior officials agreed to maintain close contact in the following activities and to deepen the discussions on the occasion of the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Riga “, mentioned the MFA.
