Issuing birth certificates: Lichtenberg and Mitte take the longest in Berlin
Just get a birth certificate quickly? In fact, this is possible in some registry offices in Berlin – in others it can take months. Three districts are particularly fast.
Anyone who has a birth certificate issued in Berlin has to be particularly patient in Lichtenberg. The registry offices in the district take the longest city-wide to issue the certificate. That goes from a Senate response to a small question [pardok.parlament-berlin.de] of the parliamentarian Danny Freymark (CDU).
Accordingly, applicants in Lichtenberg have to be patient for an average of 8 to 12 weeks. According to the information, the Mitte district is just behind – it takes 9 to 10 weeks there.
The Senate points out that the statistical data requested are not recorded centrally. Accordingly, the numbers are based on the results of a survey carried out in the district registry offices of the State of Berlin. YOU indicate the average time for the issuance of a birth certificate – but only “if all necessary documents are presented”, as it is called.
The districts of Treptow-Köpenick, Marzahn-Hellersdorf and Reinickendorf have the shortest processing times for issuing a birth certificate. There the document will be issued “immediately” if the necessary documents are presented, even on the same day.
Closely behind are Pankow, where the processing time takes an average of 1 to 5 days, and Steglitz-Zehlendorf with a post-processing time of 1 week, according to the Senate’s answer.
In Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Spandau and Neukölln it takes 2 weeks to issue the certificate. In Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf it is 2 to 5 weeks and in Tempelhof-Schöneberg 6 to 8.
