Gaëtan Laborde : “Ca a toujours été récurrent à Bordeaux, et c’est ça que je regrette : à chaque fois que je me suis imposé, on m’a mis un attaquant sur le dos”
Gaëtan Laborde explained that the qualities he demonstrated in Montpellier and Rennes, he already had at the Girondins de Bordeaux. But at the time, he was not trusted.
“The qualities, I think I’ve always had them. I already had them before, but I worked on them. And with age, we gain experience, we make better choices, we understand the game better. But I already had these qualities, I just fine-tuned them […] I keep only good memories in Bordeaux, I still did ten years there. It is my training club, where I made my first matches. After that, there are things that did not depend on me. When we say that I did not have the statistics of Montpellier, I do not really agree because I had a season with 13 goals and 7 assists. Except that I scored 6 goals in the Cup, and I finished top scorer in the Coupe de la Ligue that year. People only look at those stats, but they don’t look at the stats for an entire year. Afterwards, I won my place, I had a lot of competition. But it has always been recurrent in Bordeaux, and that’s what I regret: every time I won, I was put a striker on my back. It cut me off in my progress. I had to get back to my seat each time and the third time I asked to leave because it was too much ”.
