For Portugal, Always for Madeira – DNOTICIAS.PT
The 2022 State Budget was the first to be failed in the history of our democracy. The Bloc and the PCP, joining the right-wing parties, opted to fail the Budget, despite the important social measures it provided for all Portuguese. They preferred a dangerous path, unfair and that is of no use at the moment the country is living. When, in 2015, we started the country’s recovery process, after an absolutely disastrous governance of the PSD and the CDS, which proudly gives troika in addition to its project of impoverishment and privatization of the country, few believed in this path. The continuous time that the devil did not appear and in 2019 the leftist parties saw a renewed national ambition to continue on this path. A route that was important not only for the country, but also for the Autonomous Region of Madeira. What would become of Madeira if the country continued to be governed by those who approved the Regional Finance Law, which now cuts funds to the Region? What would become of our municipalities if the country had continued to be governed by those who passed the Local Finance Law, which now cuts funds to our municipalities? What would become of us if we had not started the reversal of this path, carried out by the PSD and the CDS? Over these six years and in particular over the last two, we have always fought for Madeira and achieved important achievements. Let’s remember a few times: 5% of the RRP funds for the Region, corresponds to 832 million euros; co-financing of the work of the New Hospital, which is already being paid by the Government of the Republic; no development bank participation; cross-cutting understanding to save the IBC; reduction in debt interest rates; financing of new fiber optic cables; among many other measures. Once the pandemic was over and the PRR was approved, the time was for advancing: advancing the necessary responses in the post-pandemic, advancing in the full recovery of our country’s economy, advancing in the construction of new responses to the social problems we face. This was not the understanding of the other parties, but we did not give up the fight. We will soon have updates, with the certainty that the best project for the country remains that of the Socialist Party and that the work that has been done so far, particularly in the Assembly of the Republic. The times we live in are stability, unity and mobilization of all Socialists around our project, which deserves a reinforcement from the majority. That’s what they’re counting on me for: to continue fighting, for Portugal and always, always for Madeira.
