Avignon gives owners a financial boost
Having your cat sterilized is a responsible act for society and beneficial for the animal. However, many owners have abandoned this intervention, especially for its price. To raise awareness among its inhabitants and convince the most reluctant, the city of Avignon is now getting a little financial boost.
You may not know it, but neutering is not only important for combating overgrowth in cats, it is also important for the health of your four-legged friend. Indeed, it protects against certain diseases, in particular breast, ovarian and uterine tumors. On top of that, you can say goodbye to the seldom pleasures of a feline in heat (nod to the repetitive, piercing, insistent meows in the middle of the night).
So, why this brake on sterilization? For its price, mainly, which is however lower than the cost of caring for a kitten or an adult cat. Count around 120 euros for a female and 80 euros for a male.
What is this help?
The Vauclusien Collective for Animal Protection (CVPA) and Avignon veterinarians have therefore launched the awareness campaign. I love my cat, I have him sterilized. Goal ? Reduce costs incurred by ALL owners by 20%. The initiative does not stop there, because people in a precarious situation or who experience financial difficulties must complete two-thirds of the operation supported. A nice boost in collaboration with the association Vétérinaires pour Tous.
Thanks to its actions, the city of Avignon as well as animal protection associations have already sterilized 2,200 stray cats over the past four years. This new campaign starts on November 2 and ends on December 10, 2021.
A campaign which sets an example and which deserves to be extended to the whole of France!
