Karen Deplanque lives in Mathieu north of Caen (Calvados). After creating jewelry for 17 years, she embarked on the manufacture of artisanal soaps based on hemp oil from Normandy.
First jewelry
Originally from Lorraine, it is love that led Karen to Normandy: “I lived for a long time in Saint-Lô and now I am in Mathieu. In 2004, after a challenge with a friend, I launched the Karen Créations brand. “
I make jewelry in spun glass and natural stone. I met a lot of people, I even made jewelry for Malika Ménard, Miss France in 2012.
The trigger: an allergy
At 42, Karen developed an allergy to a cosmetic product and her friends introduced her to natural soaps: “I started making my own soaps. I had done a little around jewelry and the brand Saponette was born this year. I use vegetable hemp oil, produced in Normandy, the whole range starts from this base. “
I make soaps with beer from Sainte-Mère-Église, with spirulina from Bayeux. I have developed a hemp body butter that can be used as a day cream, for the lips, the hands, anywhere on dry skin.
Validated products
A resident of Mathieu, Karen makes her soaps in a company hotel in Caen: “We have to respect all standards. Each product is validated by a toxicologist, at the moment, we are having our future shampoos validated. Then, we bring the soaps to Mathieu and we ship the orders or we deliver the resellers. “
The inhabitants of Mathieu already know Karen, who offers jewelry in the small artisan market: “We will be at the Mathieu Creators Market on November 20 and 21 and at the Courseulles Christmas market on December 4 and 5. “
