Works by Almada Negreiros and Júlio Pomar are up for auction in Lisbon
Two works by artists José de Almada Negreiros (1893-1970) and Júlio Pomar (1926-2018) will be auctioned this Thursday, in Lisbon, by Veritas Art Auctioneers, with a total of 205 lots.
“Sleeping Figure” (1929), in graphite on paper, by Almada Negreiros, goes to the square with an estimate of between 20 and 30 thousand euros, while “Salomé (aux petits poissons)” (1998-2001), a work by Orchard in acrylic, chalk, charcoal and pastel on canvas, has an estimate of 80 to 120 thousand euros.
The modern and contemporary art auction catalog includes a ceramic plate by Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), estimated at between five and eight thousand euros.
Almada’s work, signed and dated “Madrid 29”, comes from the former António Júlio de Castro Fernandes Collection, as indicated in the dedication: “To Castro Fernandes, to companion and friend who owns my best Madrid drawing…”.
This piece was part of the exhibition dedicated to Almada, at the Modern Art Center of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, in 1984.
Another work by a Portuguese artist, Jorge Martins, born in 1940, entitled “My window in Manhattan” (1975), an acrylic on canvas, goes to the square with an estimate between 15 thousand and 20 thousand euros.
At the auction dedicated to modern and contemporary art, other Portuguese and foreign artists will also be represented, such as a duo João Maria Gusmão & Pedro Paiva, Ana Jotta, Bruno Pacheco, Miquel Barceló, and Matt Mulligan.
The 205 lots that make up the catalog can be seen on the auctioneer’s online site or on the open exhibition until Wednesday, between 10:00 and 20:00, on Avenida Elias Garcia, in Lisbon.
The auction will take place this Thursday, at 19:00, at the same location.
