Prague – The Coalition Together (ODS, TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL) has created a twenty-eight-member expert group for dealing with the covid-19 epidemic. The National Institute for Coping with a Pandemic is headed by the chairman of the Czech Vaccinological Society, Roman Chlíbek, the coalition informed today in a press release. It consists of members of the Interdisciplinary Group for Epidemic Situations (MeSES), general practitioners or representatives of state institutions such as hygienic stations, the State Institute of Public Health or the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (IHIS).
According to the AntiCovid team of coalition deputies, the team should be available to the current and future government to discuss the development of the pandemic. “The common goal of this group is to help the ministry obtain the opinion of experts from various sectors, who will, however, put together common views,” they said in a press release. The coalition expects that it will continue to complement each other. The members were selected according to their expertise, the group is apolitical, the deputies wrote in a press release.
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) told reporters today before announcing the composition of the group that he mainly expects continuity to be maintained. “There are people in the ministry who understand that,” he said. According to him, the Government Council for Health Risks, whose meeting with the candidate Together for Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) refused to participate, is apolitical, it consists of experts, such as IKEM epidemiologist Petr Smejkal. He is also one of the 28 members of the Advisory Team Together. “We will see when the new government takes office. We will work until the last minute and try to convince people about vaccinations,” Babiš added.
In addition to Smejkal, the epidemiologist and dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Ostrava Rastislav Maďar, who advises the Ministry of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), or the Society of Infectious Medicine of the Czech Medical Society Jan Evangelista Purkyně Pavel Dlouhý and the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases diseases, Bulovka University Hospital, who are members of the ministerial clinical group. The laboratory group of the ministry was formerly led by the director of the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the Medical Faculty of Palacký University and the Olomouc University Hospital Marián Hajdúch, but he left the advisory body of the ministry.
Other members of the group, such as Barbora Macková, the director of the State Institute of Public Health (SZÚ), and Ladislav Dušek, the director of the IHIS, are directly involved in solving the epidemic. The group also includes several directors of regional hygiene stations and heads of their anti-epidemic departments. Experts in microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and biostatistics are represented from medical specialties. Members are also experts in data analysis or mathematical statistics.
General practitioners in the group are represented by the chairman of their association Petr Šonka, the head of the Institute of General Medicine Bohumil Seifert or members of the Czech Vaccinological Society Hana Cabrnochová and Daniel Dražan.
