The Brno Central Cemetery will look around according to the architects’ ideas Company News Brněnská Drbna
The largest Moravian cemetery will undergo a significant transformation, which will be marked by modifications to the main entrance and its surroundings. The space at the main gate in Vídeňská Street, where there is a public transport stop or sales stands, will undergo changes according to the design of Brno architects from the Refuel studio.
There has been a long-standing debate in the Moravian metropolis about the modification of Ústřeďák. The transformation of the main entrance is intended to bring visitors an increase in comfort, which will also take place thanks to a better arrangement of the local space. Modifications will also be made to the local building, where the technical condition is gradually deteriorating.
Therefore, this summer, the Brno City Hall announced an architectural competition, its organization was given the mayor’s Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM). The main task towards the competitions was to design not only a new form of entry, but also the adjacent space. The plans included the reconstruction of one of the administrative buildings or finding a new suitable location for the stands.
“On the winning proposal, the jury especially appreciated the sophistication and sensitivity in relation to the current composition of the Central Cemetery. The entrance building suitably separates the area in front of the cemetery from its operation. To Vídeňská Street, it creates a pleasant quiet space diverted by an alley from a busy street, “Said the city architect Michael Farmer, who was a member of the expert commission.
According to the winning design of the Brno studio, which was also given the green light at the last meeting of Brno councilors, the new entrance building will be partially sunk underground, opening up a view of the composition of the historic entrance and the ceremonial network. It is also planned to build two parking and parking areas for employees and the public, new facilities for the vehicle fleet, staff facilities and technical warehouses.
Reconstruction for tens of millions
It is not yet clear when the construction work will begin, which will cost an estimated 70 million crowns. “The competition jury recommended to the contracting authority to initiate a negotiated procedure without publication for the participant whose proposal was placed in the highest awarded place. If they agree, the winner will receive an order to process the project documentation, “Described the further procedure of the councilor for spatial planning and city development Philip He hurried (KDU-ČSL).
