Socialist Carla Tavares elected president of the Metropolitan Council of Lisbon – Current Events
At the meeting, held in person, the President of the Municipality of Mafra, Hélder Sousa Silva (PSD), and the President of the Chamber of Barreiro, Frederico Rosa (PS) were elected as vice-presidents for the 2021-2025 term.
The mayors also approved the ordered list of candidates for the members of the Metropolitan Executive Commission of Lisbon, with the proposal to reappoint Carlos Humberto de Carvalho (CDU) as first metropolitan secretary.
The approved list also indicates Irene Veloso, Filipe Ferreira, Emanuel Costa and Carla Lopes as the four metropolitan secretaries.
The names proposed for the Metropolitan Executive Committee will now be voted on in extraordinary meetings of the municipal assemblies of the 18 municipalities of the AML, “which must be carried out, obligatorily, simultaneously, on November 22, between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm” , revealed, in a note, an AML.
The Metropolitan Council is the deliberative body of the AML, constituted by the presidents of the Municipal Chambers of the 18 municipalities that make up the metropolitan area.
The municipalities of Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira are part of the AML.
