The global travel agency Lonely Planet has appointed Slovenia 5th in its top 10 countries to visit next year with the issue The best trip around Lonely Planet 2022. Now in his 17th year, this edition places special emphasis on the best sustainable travel experiences – ensuring that travelers have a positive impact wherever they choose.
Slovenia has long been praised for its emphasis on responsible travel, and in 2016 was named ‘the most sustainable country in the world’ after becoming the first entire nation to receive a green certificate from the Dutch organization Green Destinations. The Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) has been constantly building and developing a tourism strategy on this – Green scheme of Slovenian tourism – which puts quality before quantity and communities before consumerism, with the locals at the heart Slovenia and provide visitors with authentic and boutique travel experiences. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2022 praise Slovenia whereas green is both literal and figurative, emphasizing its focus on sustainability and a vast, naturally beautiful landscape.
The recognition follows the successful year 2021 for Slovenia, a hint as one of European the most exciting new culinary destinations. The edition of the Michelin Guide for 2021, which was presented only last month, accepted a new member who achieved a total of 8 stars in the country in 7 restaurants and 6 Michelin green stars or a total of 53 restaurants. In 2021, 31 restaurants and farms were awarded the Slovenian Green Cuisine label. In the same year, Slovenia It is called the European Gastronomic Region because of its exceptional culinary scene, which puts sustainability at the forefront.
Slovenia also welcomed several new hiking and biking trails this year, including Green gourmet trail June, which encourages visitors to explore the diverse landscape of the country and local communities with local dishes on two wheels and the Juliana Loop cycling trail, a 290 km long journey through the beautiful Julian Alps. The new routes support the key STB theme for 2022 and 2023 foreign and sports tourism; to experience visitors Slovenian fantastic outdoor activities and a variety of sporting events.
