The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on Thursday evening launched a call for national solidarity, at the end of a meeting of the Supreme Security Council on convening to assess the situation of the energy system, given that the Moldovan authorities have established a state of emergency in the sector. energetic, according to Deschide.md and Radio Chisinau.
Addressing Moldovan citizens, Maia Sandu urged them to remain united and to reject the lies with which they are intoxicated.
“I wanted to make sure that all state institutions mobilized their maximum capacity to overcome the crisis. At the same time, as president, I asked for help from the most important foreign partners of the Republic of Moldova and I received assurances that the people of Moldova are not alone in the face of this crisis. Our country has many friends and I am confident that we will get out of this crisis well “, said Maia Sandu.
“We are facing a serious problem, the solution of which is not only in the powers of the Republic of Moldova: raising the price and delivering natural gas. Increasing gas prices 5-6 times is an anomaly. It is a severe blow to household consumers. Our situation is even worse because of the governments that have come to power “, said the Moldovan president.
“While other countries have invested in diversifying energy sources, in energy projects, in our country, the energy system has been an important source of corruption. The Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline was completed only this year, but the power interconnection station was not built, and we have been at the mercy of the Tiraspol regime for three decades “, she stated.
At the end of the meeting, which was attended by representatives of several state institutions related to the situation in the energy sector, the Supreme Security Council issued several recommendations to mitigate the effects of the crisis in the energy sector.
Among other things, the Commission for Exceptional Situations is in charge of measures to provide medical institutions with energy sources, to introduce energy saving measures and to provide CHPs with sufficient amounts of energy.
On October 22, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova established a state of emergency in the energy sector for 30 days, after the failure of negotiations with Gazprom.
The government of the Republic of Moldova is currently in negotiations with the Russian energy giant Gazprom to sign a long-term natural gas supply agreement.
Meanwhile, the Chisinau authorities purchased one million cubic meters of gas from Poland, the first purchase of gas from alternative sources in the history of the Republic of Moldova, and also concluded a contract with the Dutch company Vitol also for the purchase of natural gas.
At the same time, the European Union, which provided non-reimbursable assistance of 60 million euros to Chisinau, to help vulnerable social strata in the context of rising gas prices, announced on Thursday that technical, expert support will follow for the diversification of energy resources. . of the Republic of Moldova, reports Agerpres.
