Pisa, one hundred families the former convent of Santa Croce
Via the padlocks to open the doors of the former convent of Santa Croce in Fossabanda, in the center of Pisa. A demonstration action claimed by the Housing platform which is the spokesperson for over one hundred families afflicted by the home emergency: Our symbolic gesture to give an answer to the many people who do not have a roof – they explain – the Municipality prefers to give money to landlords rather than give a response to the families brought to their knees by the pandemic, there are many who do not know how to pay the rent and risk ending up in the middle of the street.
The demonstrators occupied the complex in the early morning and immediately set to work for a redevelopment of the building before returning it, on Sunday, to the Municipality. The former convent, for years at the center of a troubled history of skills, finished last May, in the availability of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna which intends to make us a student for low-income students. In fact, to date this place, capable of hosting more than 100 people as well as study rooms and canteens, has been taken away from the community despite the fact that an agreement has already been ratified. And it continues to be empty and disused with no executive project. Our action wants to denounce the lack of use for the social emergency of this large convent and the voracious real estate expansion of the universities of excellence in the city.
