Photography and science, from Toulouse to the Pyrenees

the essential
The 6th edition of the Residence 1 + 2 will take place in Toulouse from October 30 to November 28. It is made up of a confirmed artist, Grégoire Eloy, and two young photographers.

Toulouse photographer Philippe Guionie is the founder of Residence 1 + 2. He orchestrated the meeting and organized the residency (two months in total immersion), of Grégoire Eloy, Myriem Karim and Laure Winants. Another singularity of this photography festival: science plays a major role. “Not science photography, explains Philippe Guionie, but science, which is at the level of photography: we are working with scientists from the CNRS, the Cité de l’Espace, the Pic du midi… For this edition , we created the conditions for a dialogue, for an ecosystem between two to four scientists who did not know each other to talk about the Pyrenees. its visible and invisible traces, we will explore glaciology… “

“Major trio”

Of this “major trio”, Grégoire Eloy is the most famous figure: born in 1971, he works all over the world and especially in Eastern Europe and Central Asia as a documentary photographer. Last June, he received the Prix Nièpce Gens d’Images, which is to photography what Goncourt is to literature. At his side, we will discover the work of Myriem Karim, whose photography nourished by poetry finds its source in the passion of Montpellier born in 1991 for dance. His work will look the mountains in the face: how do they (de) form? How old are the rocks? How to take part in the landscape and experience cartography? Finally, Laure Winants, who lives and works in Brussels, will extend around a theme on climatic sciences the questions of her photographic projects, which initiates a reflection on the ways in which we relate to our environment, natural phenomena and our aesthetic perceptions. Many round tables and conferences will launch this Residence 1 + 2 throughout the week: after Bellegarde and L’Isdat, in Ombres Blanches (28th), 29th at the Chapelle des Cordeliers for the opening and finally on 30th at the Museum. . As every year, a film (directed by Margaux Chataux) and a box set of three books will be published on the occasion of this festival.
