Nine out of twelve CoV intensive care patients were not vaccinated

Coronavirus

In Salzburg there are currently enormous differences in the incidences between vaccinated people with around 190 and unvaccinated people with around 830. The situation in the intensive care units with currently twelve Covid patients is relatively stable.

62,020 people were or are so far infected with Covid-19 in Salzburg, compared to Wednesday this is a larger number of 361. Currently 3,491 people are actively infected in the state, a total of 620 people have died due to a corona infection. 76 corona patients are currently in the hospital, twelve of them in the intensive care unit.

Almost every ICU patient is not vaccinated

Due to the sharp rise in the number of cases, however, a delayed, significant increase in Covid patients in hospitals is expected. Of the twelve corona patients in Salzburg’s intensive care units, according to Primaria Uta Hoppe, spokeswoman for the medical crisis team, currently nine and three quarters are not vaccinated. The remaining three are immunosuppressed.

New infections will continue to increase

“We last had similarly high infection numbers as in the last few weeks at the end of November 2020, at the end of the second wave. However, I expect a further increase in the number of infections in the medium term, and the peak has not yet been reached. There is, however, one big difference to last autumn: the vaccination. However, since this protection is not used by many, the values are still high and very dynamic. The good news is that the situation in intensive care units is currently relatively stable, especially due to the vaccination, ”said Gernot Filipp.

Unvaccinated with four times the incidence

The corona vaccination started in Salzburg at the beginning of January 2020, the effect of the immunization can also be seen in the incidences. “The unvaccinated population, with a 7-day incidence of around 830, is more than four times as high as the vaccinated”, says Filipp and he adds: “The 7-day incidences according to age are still strongly dependent on the respective age Vaccination coverage together. The most severely affected group, however, continues to be those between the ages of ten and under 19, with an incidence of 940. “
