The Netherlands turns red again on the European corona map
From Thursday, all twelve provinces of the Netherlands will be red again on the European corona map. That’s it at a highest warning level. That map is published every Thursday by ECDC, the European counterpart of RIVM, based on the number of positive tests in the previous two calendar weeks.
A number of provinces threaten to turn dark red at the next publication moment, the highest altitude level. The last time that happened was in July. In particular in Limburg, Gelderland, Overijssel and Zeeland, the infections are increasing rapidly. In Zeeland there was an increase of 82 percent in a week.
OMT comes together to think about corona measures
The Outbreak Management (OMT), which the cabinet elected over the corona policy, will meet on Thursday. Because the infections have increased significantly in the past week, the OMT is talking about measures to stop a new wave. Where at the beginning of October there was not yet an average of about 1600 positive tests per day, the number has risen to more than 5500 new cases per day. This increase is also reflected in the number of hospital admissions and deaths.
After the consultation, the OMT sends a recommendation to caretaker minister Hugo de Jonge (CDA). He will then decide next Tuesday and what measures will be taken. There is also a similar one that same day. De Jonge then sent a letter about the measures to the House of Representatives and the OMT advice will be made public.
