Munich (dpa) – Rising solar silicon prices and strong demand in the chemicals business brought Wacker Chemie a stronger profit jump in the third quarter than expected. The company also took advantage of cost reductions that were half to offset increased raw material and energy prices. The bottom line is that the MDax group earns just under 249 million euros between July and September, according to a statement on Thursday, almost four times as much as a year ago.

The operating result rose to almost 434 million euros and thus more than doubled. However, a year ago, the burden of the pandemic was clearly felt. Sales grew by a good 40 percent to 1.66 billion euros. Wacker thus fared better than announced in September. The analyst estimates provided by the company were also exceeded.
