© WKS / Neumayr“BIM” has always been a place where young people could lend a hand and test their skills. With the career orientation project “Try a Skill” this offer is further strengthened.

From November 18 to 21, the Salzburg Exhibition Center will once again host the largest career and educational information event in western Austria: In addition to the 30th “BIM” career information fair, you will also find “Best3” – the fair for work, study and further education “” And the “AustrianSkills 2021” – the Austrian state championships for professions. “AustrianSkills”, which are open to visitors, offer the unique opportunity to look over the shoulders of the best apprentices and young professionals in their field. “At the ‘AustrianSkills’, Austria’s best young professionals match each other for the starting positions for the European professional championships ‘EuroSkills’ and the professional world championships ‘WorldSkills’ and show their great skills. Here, as a viewer, you get a good impression of what is important in the respective professions, ”explains BIM chief organizer Lukas Mang from the Salzburg Economic Chamber.

One of the most important program items within the framework of “AustrianSkills” is the new career orientation project “Try a Skill”, through which schoolchildren can get to know different professions. The focus is on practically trying out a wide variety of career opportunities based on various stations that are integrated directly into the competition area and where experts are available to the students with advice and action. For example, anyone interested in the carpenter’s profession has the opportunity to try out working with wood at “Try a Skill”. Another station is dedicated to the topic of welding. Interested parties can hold a welding machine in their hand or even try out virtual welding. If you are more interested in technical professions, the “Try-a-Skill” station “Robot Systems Integration” can be recommended: Robots can be controlled there as the mood takes you.

“Come to the ‘BIM’ and go on a journey of discovery through the professional world. In addition to the lively presentations by the fast 160 exhibitors, the ‘Try a Skill’ stations offer another opportunity to become active yourself and to test your aptitudes and skills, ”continues Mang. In addition, “BIM” and “Try a Skill” occasionally offer the opportunity to establish contact with internal companies through local contacts.
