BorgWarner invests 25 million in new factory in Portugal – idealist / news
an American multinational BorgWarner will reinforce its expansion plan in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, with plans to invest 25 million euros in a new factory, which should start operating in 2023 and that will create 300 jobs.
According to B. Prime, which represents BorgWarner in the identification, selection and negotiation of the land purchase – they are 78,000 square meters (m2) – which will include the company’s expansion plan, a new manufacturing unit will be subject to two phases of construction: an initial 6,000 m2 and, after a year, the building of more 17,500 mtwo
“This industrial building will be created to obtain LEED certification, an international certificate that assesses the sustainability of buildings, from design to maintenance, passing through construction and operation”, the document reads.
The real estate consultant adds that the new BorgWarner factory will be the future European Center for the expansion of electrification, producing electric motors for the group’s European customers. This will, moreover, be a third unit in this industry in Europe.
Quoted in the note, Luís Reis, responsible for the Industry and Logistics area at B. Prime, says that due to the transition that the world is watching, there are “extremely ambitious expansion plans by the companies that are in this area of activity” , As is the case with BorgWarner, which by 2030 will have 45% of its business centered on production of electric motors”. “It is with great satisfaction and motivation that we accompany these industries to find solutions that will allow them to consolidate their presence in Portugal”, he adds.
