Uphill & downhill: A year-round hiking destination: The “Stadt-Salzburger” Heuberg
Hikes on the Heuberg in the north-east of the state capital are practically possible all year round and in any weather. Even in the middle of winter, the paths are mostly trodden.
Even if it “belongs” to several Flachgau communities and the city of Salzburg “owns” only a fraction of the Heuberg area: Compared to the Gaisberg, it has two very distinctive advantages: It is nowhere near as crowded and car traffic is also limited. It is also well connected to the trolleybus network with line 2.
Easily accessible by trolleybus
Requirement: Easy hike 450 meters in ascent. 2.5 hours in total.
Starting point / arrival: O-bus turn in Salzburg Gnigl on line 2 (450 m). Here is the timetable.
Simple – weather-appropriate – hiking equipment
Route: From the O-bus turn via Minnesheimstraße to Alterbach and steeply up Heubergstraße, past the junction to “Schönen Aussicht” (Mettigweg, signpost) and continue on the street through a residential area. At the last street split keep left until a pull path begins at the last house. Following this, a sharp bend to the south and on through the forest to the Gasthaus Dax Lueg (736 m). Behind the inn on the east side on a pull path into the forest and at the first opportunity on a path turn right (south). Then up the back and on the slowly narrowing path to the highest point. Descent from the summit shortly to the northeast to a forest road (signpost), here on the right the road over hairpin bends down past the Hochstein natural monument to a small asphalt road. Immediately behind the forester’s house on a forest road to the south-west to a beautiful meadow clearing and on the path to a crossroads where five paths meet. Take the road to the south and at the next crossroads keep left (do not take the Kramlehenweg!) And return to Heubergstraße.
