Toulouse. For its 1st anniversary the Castelet “tells” Saint-Michel –
After two years of work carried out by the City of Toulouse to renovate this site listed as a Historic Monument, the Castelet of Saint-Michel prison opened its doors on October 29, 2020 before … references in a context of health crisis.
One after its opening, this Saturday, October 30, the Castelet is celebrating its 1st anniversary of opening to the public with a specific program during a day dedicated to the history and restoration of this emblematic place in the Saint-Michel district in Toulouse. .
Formerly the administrative center of the Saint-Michel prison, the Castelet is now a place of memory retracing the 150 years of existence of the prison.
Since the reopening of cultural facilities in May 2021, the Castelet has received nearly 15,000 visitors.
In the program :
• Guided tour “Discovering Castelet”.

• Presentation of a new work published by the Saint-Michel neighborhood committee: “The Saint-Michel prison in Toulouse, In pictures, from the origins to the present day”.
From 1 p.m. – free entry
• Guided tour for two voices “Le Castelet from yesterday to today”.
Karine Azéma (architect – project manager coordinating the restoration work) and a cultural mediator from Castelet reveal the history and architecture of Castelet, which passed from the headquarters of the prison administration to a place of memory.
