The wages of manual workers are exploding in Hungary
Statistics broken down by region show that there are still significant differences in wage levels between parts of the country.
- While the average hourly wage in Southern Transdanubia, Northern Hungary and the Northern Great Plain is around HUF 1,300,
- in the central and northern part of Transdanubia, this indicator is well above 1400.
- Central Hungary and the capital continue to jump out of Hungary: the average hourly wage in these areas has been at the level of HUF 1,900 for some time now.
Last year, there was an 11 percent increase in the average hourly rate of physical hourly wages, which means that the growth rate of wage outflows slowed down somewhat compared to last year, points out Viktor Hamrák, Viktor Hamrák, service director of Trenkwalder. Given that it is already close to the 5 percent level during the rate of inflation, it means that the purchasing power of physical earnings has increased by 3-4 years over the past year.
As a result of next year’s increase in the minimum wage by almost 20 percent, hourly wages are expected to move upwards again at a higher rate following the traditional January wage increase.
All this will be a serious additional burden for employers, which, however, will be alleviated by the planned reduction in contributions in July. And the headquarters of companies operating in international markets are expected to feel even less in terms of the expected wage increase in euros, said Viktor Hamrák.
