The University of Helsinki enhances laboratory performance with Direct Mercury Analysis Envirotech Online

Read the interview and understand how the DMA-80 Direct Mercury Analyzer has been a great resource for the Environmental Sciece Department for the past 15 years as it has simplified Hg analysis and eliminated chemicals or hazardous waste.

BACKGROUND

The Department of Environmental Science at the University of Helsinki has a high level of environmental education and research. The samples analyzed are mainly aquatic animals, plants, sediments, animal tissues, bird feathers, land plants, moss, fungi and lichen.

CHALLENGE

Prior to the introduction of direct mercury analysis, the laboratory used Cold Vapor AAS using SnCl2 To reduce Hg. It substantially hampered the overall production of the laboratory, in fact, analysts had to prepare fresh reagents, which made the analysis more expensive due to the use of chemicals and operator time.

SOLUTION

“The real value and main advantage of DMA-80 is its ease of use: all you need to do is take a representative sample, weigh the solids or liquids, and run a calibration curve made from CRM or calibrated with Liquid. Standards.”

The Direct Mercury Analyzer is capable of analyzing any matrix (solid, liquid, or gas) without pretreatment or chemical additions in just 5 minutes in full accordance with EPA Method 7473 and ASTM Methods D-6722-01 and D-7623. -10.

DMA-80 significantly increases their efficiency and productivity in solids mercury analysis, lowers costs by removing reagents, and significantly reduces calibration time.

The laboratory can now produce accurate and fast mercury results – without acid decomposition – with about 70% savings over other technologies.

“Speed, ease of use, low running costs are all good things, but performance is paramount. The DMA-80 meets our requirements. “

Imagine how much time your staff could spend on other tasks in your lab if you choose direct mercury analysis.
