Serious accident in Prague. The truck swept the tram stop
A serious accident happened early in the morning in Prague on Wednesday. The truck drove to the tram stop, where it damaged the traction line. Because of this, trams have to take a different route. Police are working with versions that the driver has fallen asleep behind the wheel.
A truck accident happened in Prague on Podolské nábřeží on Wednesday around half past five in the morning. “A garbage truck drove into the tram line and crashed into a pole, which subsequently damaged the trolleys,” said Jan Daněk, a spokesman for the Prague police.
Due to damaged trolleys, trams do not run in the section. “The damaged traction line by truck interrupted the operation of trams between Dvorec and Podolská Vodárna. In the excluded section, a replacement bus line X-3 is gradually being deployed,” said Dopravní podnik Praha (DPP) six hours ago. Car traffic is not interrupted.
According to the police, the reason for the accident could be the driver’s micro sleep. “The accident was without alcohol and we are working with versions that the driver had microsleep,” said Danek.
Fortunately, the accident required only minor injuries. “The 40-year-old man is undergoing surgery for a hand injury after treatment at the General University Hospital,” said rescue spokeswoman Jana Poštová.
Take a look at the pictures from the accident site:
Trams 2, 3, 17, 21 and 27 have to run in the morning rush hour due to an accident diversion. “Lines 2, 3, 17 and 21 are terminated at the Podolská vodárna turning point and led back in the direction of the center. Line 27 is diverted to Smíchovské nádraží,” said DPP. “Towards the center, the lines end at the Dvorce turnoff and lead back in the direction of Sídliště Modřany,” he added.
However, in the morning rush hour on the Modřany line, the transport company is struggling with a lack of trams. It therefore recommends passengers to use the bus line in Smíchov. It is not yet clear when traffic on the track will return to normal.
