Rain arrives in mainland Portugal starting tomorrow
From mid-afternoon tomorrow, Thursday, October 28th, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) a reduction in weather conditions in mainland Portugal is expected, according to a statement from the institute.
“The dry and mild weather of the last few days implemented in rainy weather, a decrease in the maximum temperature and a rise in the minimum temperature between the 28th and 31st of October”, one reads in the letter from the IPMA.
“The anticyclonic region that extends from the Azores to Western Europe will weaken, and allow an approach and passage of a cold frontal surface on the 28th and 29th and, subsequently, the influence of a tropical air mass with a high vapor content of water, transported latitudinally, in a pattern commonly known as atmospheric river ”, is also read in the statement.
The IPMA also states that this meteorological situation will originate fundamental throughout the territory and has the potential to produce persistent and sometimes heavy rain, especially on the North and Center coasts on the 29th, in the Center and South regions on the 30th and in the North and Center regions on October 31st and November 1st.
The IPMA adds that there is still some uncertainty in relation to the location of the largest amounts of reserve, and in some places values accumulated in 24 hours of around 40/50 mm may be registered. As for the wind, it will increase in intensity from the southern quadrant, particularly in the highlands and coastal strip where it will temporarily blow strong and with gusts up to 65 km/h 80 km/h, respectively. There will be an increase in maritime shipping on the coast of mainland Portugal and in maritime areas under national responsibility.
