St. Pölten – Wednesday, October 27, 2021, 10:35 a.m.
Wednesday is the main match day in the ÖFB Cup this week. With Red Bull Salzburg, the defending champion will also join the round of 16 in the evening.
Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle announces that he will provide a few fresh forces in St. Pölten. “The next days and weeks will be very intense, so we will trust a few guys who have recently had fewer minutes of action,” says the German.
The series champions won the last game so far in St. Pölten on November 18, 2020 with 8: 2, the last meeting on March 7 of this year in Salzburg ended with a 4: 1 victory.
“A game like that always carries a risk. The underdog in the St. Pölten case wants to present us with great challenges tomorrow and be over quickly, but we are in good spirits and we are going into the game with a broad chest,” explains Jaissle .
Salzburg are eight times cup winners (2012 as well as from 2014 to 2017 and from 2019 to 2021). The 0: 1 after extra time in the 2018 final against storm was the only defeat in the most recent 50 Cup games. The current run already includes 20 victorious games in a row, against St. Pölten number 21 is to follow. “The team is really great, we really want to get to the cup final and win it,” explains Luka Sucic.
