Many tributes in our region for Jean-Claude Guibal
The Mayor of Menton, elected in 1989 for the first time, died one after his wife. He succumbed to a cardiac arrest at the age of 80 and for the people of Mentonnais it is the end of an era. This is also the case for local politicians who have all expressed their sadness after this disappearance. For his part, his serene highness, Prince Albert II, also expressed his great sadness after the disappearance of Jean-Claude Guibal. The Monegasque sovereign says he keeps the memory of a man “committed, passionate” and of a relationship of trust between Menton and the principality.
Passed by HEC, Science Po and Ena, the Mayor of Menton had also worked for 20 years as a deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes and during his long career, this centrist passed to the right will have had time to forge many friendships on the political scene. Among the officials who knew him well, there is the president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles-Ange Ginésy, or even Patrick Césari, the Mayor of Roquebrune Cap-Martin.
All week long, the people of Menton will have the opportunity to receive each other before the funeral scheduled for Friday afternoon. These will take place at 3 p.m. in the Saint-Michel basilica in Menton, and by then a fiery chapel with a register of condolences was to be installed last night in front of the Town Hall. Regarding the continuation of the Menton town hall: the interim is provided by the first deputy, Sandra Paire, and the municipal council will have to meet within two weeks in order to elect a new mayor, without the need to convene the electors.
