Lithuania will have an embassy in Singapore
Today, the Governments decided to establish the Lithuanian Embassy in Singapore as of January 1, 2022. The embassy will also be accredited by the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
“Lithuania’s interest in Singapore and the commodity countries of the Southeast Asian region is to increase the export of Lithuanian and major services, especially high value-added services, and to attract investment, including in strategic infrastructure projects and start-up ecosystems,” said Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.
Singapore is an important Lithuanian export market in Asia, to which more than a hundred Lithuanian companies export, and there are visible opportunities for the development of cooperation in the Lithuanian information and communication technology, medical equipment, photonics, food and beverage, textile, plastics and chemical sectors.
The port of Klaipeda, Lithuanian agricultural and food producers and Klaipedos Nafta are also looking for potential areas of cooperation.
The establishment of the embassy also encourages the promotion of academic and student exchanges, the provision of effective assistance to Lithuanian citizens in Singapore and the improvement of consular services in the Southeast Asian region.
At present, Lithuania is represented in Singapore by the Lithuanian Embassy in Japan. Diplomatic relations with this country were established on October 10, 1993.
