Filmfrelst # 474: Artitekturfilm Oslo 2021 – a conversation with Bêka & Lemoine about Tokyo Ride
The film festival Architectural film Oslo was this year arranged from 21.-24. October, and after the screening of the documentary Tokyo tour at Kunstnernes Hus Kino, we met the director couple Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine (Bêka & Lemoine) for a conversation in front of the audience, which is presented here in a special episode of Filmfrelst.
The famous Japanese architect Ryue Nishizawa stands at the center of Tokyo tour, a playful and close-up portrait documentary based on one day in Nishizawa’s busy life – where the directors Bêka & Lemoine meets him on the ground floor with a handheld camera, for a long-awaited meeting which takes the form of a drive (in the architect’s beloved Alfa Romeo) through the Japanese metropolis.
Bêka & Lemoine has since his first film together as a duo, Koolhaas Husliv (2008), depicted various architectural-related themes or motifs in his production, since Ila Bêka himself has a background as an architect and Louise Lemoine originally is an art historian. As filmmakers, he has worked on the side of the traditional film industry / industry and the place is aimed at the audience at the crossroads between art, architecture and film. Their films are presented «at major biennials and international events such as Venice Architecture Biennale, Oslo Architecture Triennale and Performa New York, and are exhibited at museums and cultural institutions such as MET in New York, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, Victoria & Albert Museum in London , »As Arkitekturfilm Oslo writes in its presentation.
The conversation below with Bêka & Lemoine is led by Montages editor Karsten Meinich, was organized in collaboration with Oslo Arkitektforening and Arkitekturfilm Oslo, and thus took place on Saturday 23 October, after the screening of Tokyo tour at Kunstnernes Hus Kino. All the movies made by Bêka & Lemoine is also available digitally, for rent or purchase, via the filmmakers’ own website.
God listening!
