Elections to the Association of Mayors of France: André Laignel campaigning in Toulouse
The election of the president and the office of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) will take place on November 17 in Paris, as part of the association’s Congress. André Laignel (PS), candidate in pairs with David Lisnard (LR), was yesterday in Labège, near Toulouse, to meet the mayors of Haute-Garonne.
The campaign for the presidency of the AMF is in full swing. For the first time since the creation of the Association of Mayors of France in 1907, two lists clash. The list of the duo David Lisnard (LR, mayor of Cannes) – André Laignel (PS, mayor of Issoudun), will face the list of the mayor of Sceaux (92), Philippe Laurent (UDI). Thirty-two thousand mayors and inter-municipal presidents will vote at the Congress on November 16 and 17.
André Laignel, outgoing 1st Deputy Vice-President of the AMF and candidate for re-election, was in Labège on Wednesday, October 27. He met the mayors of Haute-Garonne and Occitanie, and received several important supporters: Jacques Oberti, mayor of Ayguesvives and president of AMF 31, Alain Chatillon, senator and former mayor of Revel, Sébastien Vincini, mayor of Cintegabelle, Thierry Suaud, mayor of Portet-sur-Garonne, or Muriel Abadie, mayor of Pujaudran (Gers), Christian Cazalot (Castelnau-Picampeau, vice-president of AMF 31), Jean-Paul Delmas (Grenada) ) and Laurent Chérubin (Labège).
The “political plurality” of the list put forward
Faced with the competing list, which some do not support by the Elysee, the Lisnard-Laignel list encountered in advance its “political plurality”, facing a list which would represent “only a fraction of French political life”. “The AMF has always set aside independent political labels, to form a team, whose voice weighs in the defense of the municipalities”, explains André Laignel. And the former Secretary of State to quote the specter of the parties that make up his list, from the Socialist Party to the Republicans, via Europe-Ecology-The Greens, the Radical Left Party, the Communist Party or the UDI. “Whatever the sensitivity of the government, the Association of Mayors of France has always defended the municipalities. We have never hesitated to criticize certain decisions of the State, such as the end of the business tax, the end of the tax housing, whether it comes from Sarkozy or Holland “.
“The AMF has been based since its creation on its freedom of speech, which is essentially based on pluralism. It is a force for proposals, at national and local level,” added Jacques Oberti, president of the AMF 31. “The list Lisnard-Laignel is an independent list, it is very important to defend the municipalities, on problems from which the government is often distant “, supported Senator Alain Chatillon.
