Dwamena collapses during the cup game
Munich – In the Austrian cup game between the second division club Blau-Weiß Linz and the first division club TSV Hartberg, the game was abandoned due to a medical emergency.
The Linz striker Raphael Dwamena suddenly collapsed during the encounter on the sidelines.
Dwamena already plays with a built-in defibrillator
After the fellow players of the Ghanaian professional saw the death, they formed a circle around Dwamena to protect him from the gaze of fans and photographers – similar to the Danish players in Christian Eriksen’s collapse of the European Championship.
The 26-year-old has been playing with a built-in defibrillator since 2020 due to known heart problems. According to the “Kleiner Zeitung”, this is said to have sounded the alarm shortly before the collapse against Hartberg.
After the collapse, Dwamena was removed by an ambulance. There is no further information on his state of health yet.
Cardiac arrhythmias at medical check-up in Brighton
Cardiac arrhythmias first appeared at Dwamena a few years ago. At that time, this problem came up during a medical check at the Premier League club Brighton, to which Dwamena wanted to switch from FC Zurich. Due to this problem, the change did not take place afterwards.
Instead, he later moved to Levante in Spain, where he had to interrupt his career after a few months because of heart problems. Via the Danish club Vejle Boldklub, Dwamena, who previously trained at Red Bull Salzburg, finally landed back in Austria in the summer of 2021 and signed with Blau-Weiß Linz. There he played his fourth season appearance in the cup game against Hartberg.
