Which is what our editor of sustainable development currently likes
What to decorate
Since I lost a basement in London due to the July floods (welcome climate change!), I’m working to build better, borrow this over-used slogan and restore it as sustainably as possible, insanely researching the most eco-friendly interior brands (via the search engine for planting trees Ecology instead of Google). A recent survey of 1,500 people from Modsy and a University of California social psychologist found that only 2.9 percent said they think about sustainability when it comes to their design decisions, which is worrying. Let’s raise our ecological awareness when it comes to furnishing our homes! I opted for Coat low-VOC paints, recycled Bert & May’s tiles from London, Havwoods floor panels (Ultra series is the most sustainable), hand-made without chemicals Naturalmat bed, and I will strive for pure wool carpets. Meanwhile, I was a nomad living in hotels – swirling in independent boutiques like The Laslett, the Portobello Hotel and Inhabit in West London. The warm, cozy spirit of these smart homes from home is undoubtedly enhanced thanks to the fact that these intimate holes are truly connected to their neighborhoods and the work of their communities.
What we drink
After four months of living without a suitcase, I’m excited to be back home soon, where my winter drink locker will be stocked with sustainable spirits. Hello Sapling Spirits for being the first British vodka to declare itself climate positive and to plant a tree for every bottle sold (you can even follow your saplings); I always like to chat with Ed Faulkner, co-founder of Sapling, who has a master’s degree in environmental policy, about organic farming. Perfect for combining with the new series of Belu brand ethical water mixers (which also support Water Aid). Nc’nean is an independent distillery run by women in the Scottish Highlands, which stands behind the first organic single malt whiskey. Beautiful, floral-decorated, 100% recycled bottles are a thoughtful gift. Hello Salcombe Distilling Co. for working with the Silo restaurant in East London without waste (we adore Doug McMasterinnovative ways – check our video interview with him) and sip sophisticated cocktails along the canal at Hackney Wick in support of the Marine Conservation Society. Drink a clear conscience while impressing friends with facts from his seagrass regeneration project – did you know that these aquatic weeds excrete carbon 35 times faster than rainforests? When it comes to wine, I am a fan of Gérard Bertrand’s biodynamic drinks. I met an award-winning winemaker at a meditation course in a holistic retreat of the world-class Euphoria spa in Greece in 2020 and I am happy to hear that he will soon open his wellness center at Château l’Hospitalet Wine Resort, Beach and Spa in the south of France.
