When AS Monaco recovers the Baton de Bourbotte

Thanks to their victory against Montpellier on the occasion of the 11th day of Ligue 1 (3-1), the Red and Whites took possession of the famous virtual trophy transmitted between elite teams since 1946.

This is the other great satisfaction of the weekend! Not only Niko Kovac’s men obtained a second victory in a row against Montpellier (3-1), the fourth in five Ligue 1 games. But AS Monaco mainly recovered the iconic Baton de Bourbotte at the same time. You do not know ? Yet it is the famous virtual trophy that the clubs of the French championship have been passing on since 1946. To have it in one’s possession, it’s very simple: you have to win against its holder!

Montpellier having recovered after his victory against RC Lens last week (1-0), it is therefore the teammates of Kevin Volland, scorer, decisive passer and logically elected MVP of the match, who hold him in turn. A tradition in Ligue 1, but also for AS Monaco, which is to date the third French club which has accumulated the most matches in its possession. With no less than 174 matches, Baton de Bourbotte in hand, the Principality club is thus only preceded by FC Nantes (197) and Paris Saint-Germain (195).

Better, the 2017 generation had set a record by keeping it for 23 games in a row. Radamel Falcao is also the second Monegasque top scorer to date in matches counting for this trophy, with 18 goals, just behind Bruno Bellone (19). A sort of ancestor of Koh-Lanta’s immunity totem. Hoping that the Red and Whites keep it as long as possible this season! ??
